Woodstock 1969

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:01 pm

The Woodstock Music and Art Fair was an event held at Max Yasgur’s 600 acre (2.4 km?; 240 ha) dairy farm in the rural town of Bethel, New York from August 15 to August 18, 1969. Bethel (Sullivan County) is 43 miles (69 km) southwest of the town of Woodstock, New York, which is in adjoining Ulster County.1

The glimpses of the musical performances in these clips are from the point of view of someone in the crowd, not from a privileged camera position beside the stage. Any slightly closer shots are the result of a lengthy trek through the crowd and the mud, to a better vantage point.2

In need of seed money for a festival and recording studio Lang and Kornfeld?s manager had come across the ad. Kornfeld was a vice president at Capital Records.3

Perhaps it was, but no one could have estimated the effect those three days would have on rock music and American pop culture. The festival actually took place in Bethel, New York, on Max Yasgur’s farm about fifty miles away from Woodstock.4

The Sixties culture called for a rejection of material and traditional comforts. Insurance plans, new cars, new clothes, traditional ceremonies, nine to-five jobs, meaningless work done just to pay the bills - all were questioned and discarded.5
