The Next American Idol
Fox Broadcasting Company (FOX), 19 Entertainment and FremantleMedia announced the sponsors for the sixth season of American Idol, which returns Tuesday, Jan. 16 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Wednesday, Jan. 17 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. programs of the season (out of 200 regular series on the 6-nets) among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens, and did so for 19 consecutive weeks.1
While the past three winners of American Idol come from geographically diverse parts of the nation - Alabama, Texas and North Carolina -each of the neighborhoods share common attributes. Most notably, Ruben Studdard, Kelly Clarkson and Fantasia Barrino all come from mid- and high-density suburban neighborhoods with strong local character and a high potential for economic growth.2
Now that Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini have hit the big screen in ”Grease” meets ”Baywatch” (a.k.a. ”From Justin to Kelly”), last year’s ”American Idol” winner, Ruben Studdard, and runner-up, Clay Aiken, are considering a high-concept movie of their own.3
It was, after all, Taylor’s fanatic “Soul Patrol” which brought him to victory last year. Sure, some viewers will wait to make their final decision until after tomorrow night’s final performances.4

Then there’s the big gay history of American Idol. Season 1 featured Jim Verarros, an openly gay singer-turned-actor, who said in many interviews he was not allowed to discuss his sexuality during the show.6
