Thandie Newton

Thandie Newton may have been left off of 2006’s list, but the year is a comeback year for the actress. Thandie wowed audiences with her role as Linda in the Christmas premiere of The Pursuit of Happyness.1

Actress Thandie Newton must really like yelling a lot, because she’s had a lot of chances to do it in her last two movies, the surprise Oscar winner Crash and the upcoming drama The Pursuit of Happyness opposite Will Smith. Smith plays the real-life Chris Gardner, a down on his luck salesman trying to land his dream job as a stockbroker, and Newton is his unsupportive wife.2

A BAFTA award-winning British/Zimbabwean actress, Thandie Newton is widely-recognized by audiences as Nyah Hall, the female lead in the highly-successful sequel Mission: Impossible 2 (2000), opposite superstar Tom Cruise. She won critical kudos for playing roles in such films as John Duigan?s critically acclaimed Flirting (1991), the Merchant-Ivory production Jefferson in Paris (1995), Gridlock?d (1997), Beseiged (1998) and Beloved (1998, with Oprah Winfrey).3

In a series of powerful images, Matt and a variety of famous faces - including Thandie Newton, Joely Richardson and Jemima Khan - are seen destroying toys and setting fire to children’s drawings. The pictures, released to coincide with Sunday’s global day of protest, are a symbol of the suffering of the youngsters in the troubled region.5
