Updated) Independent Silicon Valley-based automaker Tesla has unveiled the Tesla Roadster — an all-electric car capable of accelerating to 60 mph in just four seconds, while offering equivalent mileage of 135 mpg, and a 250 mile range. The high-performance roadster is capable of hanging with a Ferrari F430, Porsche Carrera S, or BMW M5.2

March 18, 2008 A very significant milestone in zero-emissions motoring has just occurred as Tesla Motors announced yesterday that its groundbreaking electric sportscar has commenced regular production. The 130mph Tesla Roadster is the first production electric car to boast genuine sports performance coupled with a 210+ mile range between battery charges, which make it both exciting and viable for the vast majority of driving purposes.3

The gorgeous all-electric sports vehicle drives as smoothly as any other sports car out there, only it is way better looking, and completely emissions free! This month, Tesla Motors announced that the highly anticipated 2008 electric Tesla Roadster is finally in production for sale this year!4

If Tesla moves ahead as planned, it will be a big blow for Monaco-based car manufacturer Venturi. Their electric roadster, the Venturi F?tish, will be released earlier than Tesla’s, but at a cost nearly three-times higher.5

In the meantime, the co-founder and deposed former CEO of Tesla Motors has resurfaced with his latest, relatively friendly take on the Tesla Roadster. “A low-production volume electric car by itself won’t make much of a difference in the world,” said Martin Eberhard in his most recent posting on the Tesla Founders blog.6
