Rome Tennis

The Rome Tennis Club was recently selected by USTA Georgia as hosting the Team Tennis Event of the Year in the State of Georgia for 2007. This event was the USTA GA Adult League State Championships 2.5/3.0, which were held in Rome in May of 2007.1

The Rome Masters is an annual tennis tournament held in Rome, Italy. The men’s competition is a ATP Masters Series event on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tour.2

From 1935 on, the tournament was played in Rome inside the Foro Italico, the imposing sporting complex built by Mussolini as a celebration of Italian sporting virtue. The ?Stadio del tennis? and other adjacent facilities including the ?Stadio dei marmi? and the ?Stadio Olimipico? were begun in 1928 by the architect Costantino Costantini, designer of the celebrated “Stadio della Pallacorda” whose Carrara marble stalls are topped by 18 statues of athletes.3

Kids for Tennis (KFT) is continuing to launch the new Tennis Pilot program for beginner boys and girls, ages 5-10 years old. This program will be offered during the year in Rome, Rockmart, Cedartown, and Summerville.4

The Rome-Floyd Tennis Center is open for regular play and features 16 lighted tennis courts. The facility was named by USTA as facility of the Year in 1992, this center serves as the hub for tennis activity in Rome and Floyd County.5
