Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation today announces the creation of a new scholarship program to benefit students in both of the cities it calls home. High school seniors in Cleveland, the home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, and in New York City, the Foundation?s base of operations, will be eligible for the scholarship program.1
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is the nonprofit organization that exists to educate visitors, fans and scholars from around the world about the history and continuing significance of rock and roll music. It carries out this mission both through its operation of a world-class museum that collects, preserves, exhibits and interprets this art form and through its library and archives as well as its educational programs.2
Artists are eligible to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first record. Inductees are chosen based on the significance of the artist’s work as well as its contribution to developing the rock and roll music genre.3
“The 2008 inductees are trailblazers—all unique and influential in their genres,” said Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation President Joel Peresman. “From poetry to pop, these five acts demonstrate the rich diversity of rock and roll itself.”4
Let’s make one thing clear: rock and roll is popular music for dancing that annoys parents. And a great many of the acts currently enshrined in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame do NOT meet this simple criteria.5
