Philly Horse

Got to love the hometown Philly horse Smarty Jones. The horse is undefeated and the national sports radio guys are drawing comparisons to Secretariat, Seabiscuit and they say that Smarty is the best running horse in a long time.1

Horse the Band marched on stage first, or at least half of them did. With only the keyboardist, drummer, and guitarist on stage, the lead singer came out to notify the crowd that ?Our bass player is in the bathroom!? If any band could get away with it, it?s Horse the Band.2

FROM THE OUTSIDE, the ramshackle rowhouse on Fletcher Street near 27th, in Strawberry Mansion, looks like any other property whose owner couldn’t keep up with the bills. Fifteen dull-eyed horses live in cramped, makeshift stables built along one wall.3

Dave Bush is better than people think, as is Dana Eveland. Both are young pitchers with a good track record in the minors, with Eveland(aged 22) getting to the majors in 2.5 years.4

Felt a real emptiness for a bit after the race too. And this is from a New Yorker who had no desire to back Funny Cide last year.5

The next day was time for the highlight of the trip. There was a warm sun shining but a stiff breeze to keep you cool, Schilling was on the mound - albeit for the wrong team - and the Phils were coming off a delightful romp the day before.6

Circular Quay (John Velazquez/Todd Pletcher): Arguably, the number one jockey/trainer combination in America today. Velazquez could have ridden any number of Pletcher’s horses, and he ends up on Circular Quay.7
