NBC Sports president Ken Schanzer said that the network sees a ratings bump when the Open tournament bleeds into primetime, as it did in 2002 when the event on Long Island lasted until 8:40 p.m. EDT, delivering the best Sunday rating ever.1

The NBC Sports logo in the background on April 8, 1974, the night that Hank Aaron hit his record breaking 715th career home run. This logo debuted in 1972 and lasted until NBC unveiled their NBC “N” on New Year’s 1976.2

While the other major networks offer a similar mobile platform exclusive for news and sports coverage, NBC is hoping to capitalize on the experience of Crisp Wireless, a rapidly expanding company aiming to power mobile businesses for media and entertainment brands, to promote March Madness and the Olympics. According to the official press release, Crisp will be responsible for all of the mobile advertising behind this partnership.3

NBC might have financial motives to make nice with Chinese authorities and ignore everything but sports. It paid $894 million for Beijing’s TV rights — up from $456 million for the 1996 Atlanta Games.4

Built by Crisp Wireless, the NBC Sports Mobile site will be available on-deck and off-deck with up-to-the-minute scores, mobile fantasy news and advice, player statistics for games and seasons, injury reports and player news. Toyota Motor is an advertiser.5

After years of hard work and sacrifice, Curran was rewarded when he was contacted by NBC Sports to become an NFL columnist for their new website. He explained that being successful in sports writing could be achieved by following Belichick’s expectations from his players, “show up on time, be prepared, and do your job.”6
