For many Tarzan fans, the Tarzan legacy was first established with the emergence of a former Olympic swimming sensation, Johnny Weissmuller. Touted as the quintessential Lord of the Jungle, Weissmuller starred in a number of Tarzan movies, six of which are contained in this four-disc set.3

From 1932 to 1942, MGM made six Tarzan pictures starring Maureen O’Sullivan as Jane and five-time Olympic gold medalist Johnny Weissmuller as the loinclothed King of the Jungle. Tarzan’s creator, pulp writer Edgar Rice Burroughs, was always friendly to the idea of Tarzan on film, so there had already been a string of silents and serials prior to MGM’s go at the character.4

Synopsis: Though Cannibal Attack is officially an entry in Columbia’s “Jungle Jim” B-movie series, star Johnny Weissmuller is cast as “himself”, rather than his usual Jungle Jim role. The plot finds Weissmuller investigating a series of cargo and cobalt thefts.5
