Indianapolis Star - Phillip Wilson - AND ANOTHER FIELD: Dr. John F. Murray, a licensed clinical and sport performance psychologist, sent an email in which he compares the Colts and Bears on a mental performance index, his invention to measure the degree to which a team plays to perfection. Dr. Murray writes, so far, the Colts have scored .547 on his MPI compared to the Bears?1

Sophomore pitcher Megan Soutlz (Carmel) has an 18-1 record, powering the DePauw softball team to the nation’s elite,” notes this morning’s Indianapolis Star. “The Tigers (20-1) are ranked No. 3 in Div. III and on a school-record 20-game winning streak.”2

The Indianapolis Star began publishing on June 6, 1903. It began as a morning paper in competition with two other dailies, the Indianapolis Journal and the Indianapolis Sentinal, which it eventually took over.3

The Star has won the Pulitzer Prize twice for investigative reporting. In 1975, The Star was honored for its 1974 series on corruption within the Indianapolis Police Department.4

The Star won its first Pulitzer Prize in 1975 for special local reporting; the series revealed widespread corruption in the Indianapolis Police Department. It received its second Pulitzer in 1991 for investigative reporting for a three-part series on medical malpractice.5

“Black politicians got together yesterday,” Amos Brown, WTLC-AM radio host and Indianapolis Recorder columnist, told Journal-isms after Thursday’s news conference. “They considered what RaShawn posted to be the last straw” regarding “the Star’s negative portrayals of African Americans.” He said Biddle’s posting would have been considered fair comment had he not used the word “coon.”6
