NC Lt. Governor Candidate Hampton Dellinger on the importance of campaign finance reform and voter-owned elections. Clip taken from debate on WUNC-TV and used to promote discussion and voter education.1

The candidates said they support a death penalty moratorium and agree that same-sex couples should be permitted to enter civil unions. They said reducing the school dropout rate also a priority.2

North Carolina is ranked in survey after survey as one of the top states?and often the #1 state?in which to do business. This is an incredible achievement, one that reflects decades of hard work by North Carolinians and sustained commitment from state leaders.3

State Senator Walter Dalton pulled out of the debate, according to what his camp called some transportation concerns. It seems that Dalton, who had been campaigning in the eastern part of the state Friday night, didn’t believe he could make it to the 7pm event, as the campaign had already booked him in the eastern part of the state.4

“Because the presidential contest has sucked so much of the oxygen out of the race, then the gubernatorial contest has taken most of what’s left,” Frazier said. “The candidates are trying to talk about issues, but they’re having a hard time.”5

Dellinger’s father, Walter Dellinger, held top posts in the Clinton administration Justice Department, including acting solicitor general, the lawyer in charge of arguing the government’s cases before the Supreme Court. Walter Dellinger also was a legal adviser to Gore during Supreme Court arguments over the 2000 election.6
