Gavin Floyd

Gavin Floyd’s no-hit bid lasted until the ninth this time. Joe Mauer doubled with one out off Chicago’s young right-hander for the Minnesota Twins’ only hit and Floyd had to settle for a 7-1 victory Tuesday night as the White Sox ended a six-game losing streak.1

This one had all the makings of the White Sox first 3-game losing streak of the season. Gavin Floyd had a third inning that evoked images of Javy’s second inning earlier this week.2

The Chicago White Sox have a pitcher who is starting to develop this aura. Yes, the same Gavin Floyd whose slow development frustrated Phillies officials before they traded him in 2006, is blossoming into the pitcher everyone thought he could be when he was selected fourth overall in the 2001 draft.3

The Tigers went into the top of the inning hitless against right-hander Gavin Floyd. However, Edgar Renteria broke up the no-hit bid with a one-out single to right.4

The strong performance by Gavin Floyd on Thursday resulted in a no-decision after closer Bobby Jenks blew a two run lead in the bottom of the ninth inning. Floyd threw six strong innings allowing two runs (both unearned) on two hits, walking two and striking out four.6
