Ant Man

“The Man in the Anthill”, which appeared in Tales to Astonish #27 (January, 1962) was just a typical sci-fi thriller, of the kind Marvel Comics churned out by the dozen back in those days. But it happened to be published right when superheroes were coming back into vogue.1

Ant-Man will tell the story of not one, but two incarnations of the little followed, but seminal comic hero. The worlds of both Henry Pym, the original Ant-Man of the 60?s book, and the modern day Scott Lang, Ant-Man?s successor will be explored, in a comedic, but non-farcical action spectacular.2

Pym used this persona to fight crime alongside his partner, the Wasp. Ant-Man also became a founding member of the Avengers, alongside Iron Man, Thor, Wasp, and the Hulk.3

But the comic book’s low sales also led the plot into several unexpected gimmicks. The first story in this collection finds Ant-Man sneaking into Ms. Marvel’s headquarters, and stumbling into the middle of a fight with the Avengers.4

Following Mister Fantastic’s return, Ant-Man joined Heroes for Hire; upon its disbandment, he provided backup to both the Avengers and the Fantastic Four. He also dated former super hero Jessica Jones, although their relationship never became serious.5

Eric O’Grady, a.k.a. the Irredeemable Ant-Man, is none of these. As a low-level operative in the Marvel Universe’s government boogeyman organization SHIELD, O’Grady works neither hard nor particularly well at keeping the Free World safe.6
